Symptoms

• A black layer of fungal growth covers the leaves and reduces their photosynthetic efficiency
• Fungus develops on the sweet exudation of scales and mealy bugs attacking the tender leaves

Control Measures

• Spray 1% starch water on the affected leaves.
• On drying, fungus will be removed along with the starch coating as flakes.
• Control scales and mealy bugs using insecticides mentioned earlier.
