Physiological Disorders:Hard Lump
- Hard lump or masses of varying sizes and shapes occur in the pulp.
- Lumps are pinkish brown in colour and more firm than the usual pulp and taste like immature or unripe fruits, with the result that the quality of the fruit is affected.
- Occurrence of hard lump is seasonal and only bunches emerged during dry winter period exhibit the phenomenon.
- The pink discoloration and astringent taste of fruit is due to high accumulation of tannin during winter months which inhibit the conversion of starch to sugar.
